We musicians entertain because we choose to... Great Apes don't don't have that choice! Become educated and help educate others. Support sanctuaries around the globe as they need our assistance and help in providing life long care. DO NOT support any of the industries using apes or any other captive lives in films, television-ads, music videos or stage performances. Write letters or email directors and producers, advertising companies, record companies, managers and the bands and artists themselves. Don't attend live stage shows and circuses. Do not purchase greeting cards or post cards with photos of apes. The greater the message will be to breeders, trainers and the rest of the industry to stop the exploitation and cruelty.
Sanctuaries around the world need our help. It ranges from monetary values to office and building supplies needed to run the sanctuaries and enrichment items for the rescued residents. You may be asking “what is enrichment?” Enrichment is a variety of items or activities provided to the apes to keep them active, challenged and entertained. Most sanctuaries include these "wish list" items on their web site. Listed below are a few examples of easily obtainable items as donations and contributions to sanctuaries: Lite blankets -(fleece/polar)
Toys/Dolls Toy stuffed animals
Plastic mirrors
Beach/soccer/basketballs Foods - peanut butter and nuts There are many ways to get fans, friends, schools even businesses involved to help our sanctuaries all over the world. Sponsor an event, put on a fund raiser at gigs, school, house parties... Be creative, be educating, create awareness. CONSERVATION
Our closest living relatives, Great Apes, are critically endangered. Their habitats are being destroyed and their lives disappearing as we speak. A simple way to help as a consumer is to avoid products containing ingredients such as Palm Oil. Pay close attention to labeling on food and home products. Palm oil is the #1 ingredient that has devastated 3/4's of Indonesia's rain forest and continues to destroy the lives of orangutans and their families.
As a consumer, please do not support the market for exotic woods, which are crucial to the survival of Apes and their habitats. Check if woods are ecologically sound to buy, certified by the FSC, the Forest Stewardship Council. Increased commercial logging in Africa and around the world is the main cause for the Bushmeat crisis. It creates open paths and roads for hunters using illegal methods, hunting illegal species (endangered, threatened, or protected) from unauthorized areas. Families of chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans and other primates are disappearing as well as other species and their habitats. I believe in our hearts and souls that we can make positive changes to better our world, a difference for us all above and below sea level.
